From what I have read there is no difference between the two. US models are cheaper. This resulted in the US model going gray. Now, both models have the same metal treatment, so there is no difference there. They are similar in quality.

Interesting, I have a US made gen4 23, the Austrian gen4 19 and 21 have a new coating on the old, more durable one. The 21 is only a few months old and has some minor wear from contact with the case.

From what I gather the final product is OK. The topic is chemicals and more. So the imported parts should be fine, but take it with a grain of salt because I could be wrong.
I heard about the EPA problem and then read that it's not "just an EPA" problem. The process is very similar, but instead of a "bath" in chemicals, it is done through a "cloud" or "gas" of chemicals. According to the posters, both create the same EPA problem. The Melonite process is similar.
